  43. This CD is compatible with all recent releases of Windows such as Windows 95,
  44. Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium,
  45. Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows 2000 Professional,
  46. and Windows 2000 Server.

  48. The software is optimized for geniune Intel Celeron, Pentium II and Pentium III
  49. processors as well as for the AMD Athlon. Other processors such as the Cyrix,
  50. AMD K6, NexGen, WinChip, and emulated x86 processors will run much slower and
  51. their use is not recommended or supported.

  53. If you are not running the automatic setup utility, the instructions below
  54. explain how to manually install and run each of the products.

  56. Before installing the emulators, it is important that you make sure that your
  57. DirectX drivers, ASPI SCSI drivers, and other Windows device drivers are up
  58. to date.

  60. This software has been tested and verified to work with the final release of
  61. Windows 2000 which became available on February 17 2000 and has also been
  62. tested with the Windows 2000 Service Pack 1. The software has also been tested
  63. with all versions of Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Millennium, and NT 4.0.

  79. This CD-ROM contains voer 500 megabytes of sample Atari 8-bit and Atari ST
  80. software. Due to space limitations, free Apple Macintosh software is provided
  81. on a separate CD-ROM (the Emulators Macintosh Collection CD-ROM) and contains
  82. 600 megabytes of shareware and freeware Macintosh software. You can order the

  89. To install Microsoft DirectX 5 (or 7) on Windows 95:
  90.  
  91. 1. Go into the DIRECTX directory and run DX5ENG.EXE (or DX7AENG.EXE).
  92.    Non-English versions of DirectX may be downloaded directly from
  93.    Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/directx.

  95. DirectX only needs to be installed if your are running the original
  96. release of Windows 95 or Windows 95 OSR2. If you are running Windows 98
  97. or higher, click on the "Windows Update" button on your Start menu to
  98. check for newer releases of DirectX. Your computer needs DirectX in order
  99. to run emulators (and many video games) in full screen.

  103. To run the Gemulator Explorer disk reader utility for Windows:
  104.  
  105. 1. Go to the GEMXPLOR directory using Windows File Manager or Explorer
  106. 2. Run ASPICHK.EXE to make sure ASPI version 4.57 or higher is installed
  107. 3. If ASPI not installed, or an older version is installed, run ASPI32.EXE
  108. 4. Run GEMXPLOR.EXE on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, NT, or Millennium
  109. 5. Also read the GEMXPLOR.TXT file
  110.  
  111. Copy GEMXPLOR.EXE to your Windows desktop for convenient access to
  112. Atari ST and Apple Macintosh formatted disks. Use Gemulator Explorer
  113. to copy individual files from Macintosh and Atari disks over to
  114. your PC's hard disk, to quickly format Macintosh disks on the PC, or to
  115. create disk image files of physical disks.

  119. To run the Xformer 2000 (Atari 8-bit emulator for Windows):

  121. 1. Go into the GEMUL8R directory using the Windows File Manager or Explorer
  122. 2. Double click XFORMER7.EXE to run the Xformer 2000

  124. The entire GEMUL8R folder can be copied to your hard disk for convenience.

  130. To run the Gemulator 2000 (Macintosh Classic and Atari emulator for Windows):

  132. 1. Install at least one Macintosh or Atari ST ROM image file on your PC or
  133.    use an existing ROM card with ROMs installed
  134. 2. Go into the GEMUL8R directory using the Windows File Manager or Explorer
  135. 3. Double click GEMUL8R7.EXE to run the Gemulator 2000

  137. The entire GEMUL8R folder can be copied to your hard disk for convenience.

  139. Gemulator 2000 supports 68000 based Atari ST and Macintosh Classic
  140. emulation, and 6502 based Atari 8-bit emulation.

  146. To run vMac (Macintosh Plus emulator for Windows and Linux):

  148. 1. Install at least one Macintosh ROM image file on your PC or have an
  149.    existing Gemulator ROM card with Macintosh ROMs installed
  150. 2. Go into the VMAC directory using the Windows File Manager or Explorer
  151. 3. Go into the DOS, WINDOWS, or LINUX directory as appropriate for your PC
  152. 4. The compressed source files for vMac will be in each directory as well as
  153.    one or more of the following subdirectories:

  156.         FILES - uncompressed distribution files
  157.         SETUP - setup and installation files
  158.         SRC   - source code for DOS, Windows, and/or Linux

  164. vMac is limited to running 128K Macintosh Plus ROMs and emulating a black
  165. and white Macintosh Plus computer.

  192. 3. There will be one of more of the following subdirectories:

  200. To install, run INSTALL.EXE in the FUSION\SETUP directory.

  202. Fusion PC 512K and 1M Macintosh ROM image files.

  204. Use Fusion PC 3.0 on older PCs running MS-DOS or older versions of Windows.

  206. We've overhauled Fusion PC to run up to 100% faster than before, so if you
  207. used an earlier version of Fusion, you'll be in for a treat.

  211. To run the SoftMac 2000 (Apple Macintosh emulator for Windows):
  212.  
  213. 1. Install at least one Macintosh ROM image file on your PC or have an
  214.    existing Gemulator ROM card with Macintosh ROMs installed
  215. 2. Go into the GEMUL8R directory using the Windows File Manager or Explorer
  216. 3. Double click SOFTMAC.EXE or SOFTMAC2.EXE to run SoftMac 2000
  217.  
  218. SoftMac 2000 Online Edition (SOFTMAC.EXE) is a general purpose emulator which
  219. emulates a wide range of 6502, 68000, and 68040 computers, including Atari
  220. 8-bit computers, Atari ST computers, black and white Macintosh Classic
  221. computers, color Macintosh II computers, and 32-bit clean Macintosh Quadra
  222. computers. Use SoftMac 2000 Online Edition if you own both Atari and Macintosh
  223. software, or if you need to run 32-bit dirty Macintosh software (i.e. System 6
  224. or earlier).

  226. SoftMac 2000 Premium (SOFTMAC2.EXE) is designed just for running 32-bit clean
  227. color Macintosh software, and can run up to twice as fast than Online Edition
  228. at tasks such as running Mac OS 8. Use Premium Edition if you mainly need to
  229. run Mac OS 8 or 32-bit clean System 7 compatible software.
  230.  
  231. Both emulators share a common GEM2000.INI file in the Windows directory. You
  232. may delete this file to clear SoftMac's saved settings and options. SoftMac
  233. also saves the Macintosh PRAM (CMOS) settings as .PRM files in the directory
  234. specified in First Time Setup. Delete these files to "zap" the Macintosh PRAM.
  235.  
  236. All versions of SoftMac 2000 on this CD-ROM are capable of booting System 7,
  237. 7.5, 7.6, and Mac OS 8. Mac OS 9 is not currently supported. Popular Macintosh
  238. software such as Photoshop, Wingz, Word, Excel, MacWrite, etc. is supported
  239. provided you are running versions compatible with 68000 and 68040 processors.

  241. The SoftMac 2000 software requires a registration code in order to activate
  242. full functionality. If you purchased the SoftMac 2000 CD-ROM, your unique
  243. registration code and directions for entering it are printed on a separate
  244. registration certificate.
  245.  
  246. Failing to enter a valid registration code will cause features to be disabled
  247. in Macintosh modes. Memory is limited to 14 megabytes instead of 1024 megabytes
  248. and screen resolution will be limited to 640x480.
  249.  
  250. Caution: the registration key is your personal key and is unique to you. It
  251. contains encrypted information about your order, so it is unwise to share your
  252. registration key with anyone. Treat it as you would your credit card number. It
  253. prevents other people from freely running the software which you have paid for.
  254.  
  255. If you are running on Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, and you have a Gemulator
  256. ROM card installed, you must install the Windows device driver for the ROM card.
  257. The driver is located in the GEMUL8R\NT directory and can be installed by
  258. running the INSTALL.BAT file. Then reboot Windows. The driver is not required
  259. for use on Windows 95 or Windows 98 as those support the ROM card directly.
